5/16/2009 Happy Birthday4/14/2008 Day 4Day 04 December 25, 2007 Varanasi - Khajuraho
Our flight was delayed again. This time, we waited for two hours. Fortunately, we did not come here alone or it would be so boring. My cousin was a smart and friendly person. It was cool that we could travel together. Ha, it was delightful and thanked him for understanding my engish. :P We met another interesting guide in Khajuraho. We appriciated that he showed us around the Eastern set of Templs and Western set of temples until pretty late becaue our arrival was delayed. Then, we accepted his recommendation to watch a folk dance show and had a nice dinner just in front of those ancient temples with a light and sound show. OKay, this spot was the most exciting scene in this trip. There were sexy sculpures every temples. I could not stop taking photos and looking at those. Actually, every sculpures had stories and meaings. You could look closely and guessed what those arties would like to express. Every details was so delicatie and vivid. Our guide said " Love is the most pleasant thing in life." Kama Sutra - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kama_Sutra
Situated in the heart of india, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Khajuraho is a fascinating village with a quaint, rural ambience and a rich cultural heritage, honoured by the world as india's unique contribution to human civilisation. the chandela dynasty built eighty-five temples here. twenty remain as embodiments of indian architectural and sculptural art at its most evolved state. even ten centuries after they were constructed, the temples of khajuraho reflect an eternal philosophy relevant to all mankind. the temples of khajuraho is a world heritage site and belong not just to india but to the world. Khajuraho is one of the few millennium destinations of the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khajuraho
Day 2 & 3Day 02 December 23, 2007 Delhi – Varanasi
Varanasi was such a surprised place. It was a city that I had never seen. Those fascinated stories of Hinda religion caught my eye. I had been a while not to involve the whole new things. I looked around everyone, every place and everything all the time. At the same time, I was observed by local Indians. It was not usual to see a Asian girl over there. One of the lifetime experience was to enjoy the evening AARTI at the Ghats. Our guide was a wise and lovely old man. His commentary on the proceedings and explained meanings of the chants was excellent during the AARTI of the river. I had pleasant memories in Varanasi. Varanasi is the World's most ancient living city, crowded with temples, and its labyrinth of street. The religious capital of Jinduism, Varanasi is the carpet-manufacturing place of India. It was previously known as Kashi-the city that illuminates. The present name is derived from the fact that the city is at the confluence of the river Varuna and ASI. It is also called City of Temples. The shimmering red and golden water of the Ganges when rays of dawn falls on them, the high banks, the temples, the Ashrams, the pavilions all are an experiece in themselves.
As a Chinese, I did not know about those religious stories well. Sarnath - 5 miles out of Varanasi for a day excursion: One of the holiest Buddhist sites in the world, where Buddha preached his first Sermon in 590 BC. Witness the ruins of once flourshing Buddist monastery.
Day 03 December 24, 2007 Varanasi
We woke up at 4:30 in the early morning and took a boat ride on the sacred river Ganges to see the cremation Ghats and witness the living traditions of one of the world's oldest and important religions. Thousands of faithful Indians came dailt to the banks to bathe and prayed while in the background, temples and palaces rose in tiers from the water's edge. Then, we returned for a walk throught the cobblestone streets along the banks of "Ganga" and visited all the temples of Varanasi.
Vishwanath Temple - Deicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is the most sacred shrine in Varanasi. The orginal temple was destroyed by the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzed which was later restored by Rani Ahilyabai of Indore in the 18th century. The Gold plating of the dome was done during 19th centrury by Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab. Banaras Hindu University - Founded by Pundit Madan Mohan Malviya it is considered to be the largest residential university in Asia.
Day 1Day 01 December 22, 2007 Delhi
After my cousin arrived in the afternoon, we went sightseeing at Delhi, which reflects the legacy the British left behind. We visited to the Qutub Minar, the tallest stone tower in India, India Gate, the Parliament buiding, the Rastrapathi Bhawan, the president's residence, the Isa Khan Tomb and the Emperor Humayun's Tomb. The division between New and Old Delhi is the division between the capitals of the British and the Mughals respectively. But we did not have enough time to visit Old Delhi because my cousin's flight was delayed for around three hours.
The Lotus temple located in south of Delhi. It is lotus shaped and has rightly been given the name. It is made of marble, cement, dolomite and sand. It is open to all faiths and is an ideal place for meditation and obtaining peace and tranquility. Its founder, Bahaullah (1817-1892), is regarded by Bahai as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad.
4/7/2008 Day 0Day 00 December 21, 2007 Arrival at Delhi
Well, i arrived at Delhi one day before this trip because most tickets were either booked or sold out. It was a long story. Fortunately, I got my tickets to India in time. What had I done at the zero day? I arrived at the hotel in the afternoon at local time and fell asleep because slept only for two hours at the night before my flight. Then, I woke up at the evening but decided not to go outside by myself. It seemed not safe for a little foreign girl to walk around. So I stayed at my room and watched TV without understanding a word about what they said. Then, I started to work on some duties with customers and wrote some memos to my deputy by email due to not able to fall asleep anymore. My body clock was confused. Anyway, I was not really a workaholic. I just worked before my trip started. no emails~ no calls~ no work~ CLASSICAL AND ROYAL NORTH INDIA10 Days
